AI in Media Literacy
The online world is becoming Plato’s Cave 2.0—are we merely seeing shadows of reality shaped by our own perceptions? Machine learning algorithms, powering recommendation systems on social media, allow anyone to precisely target messages to individuals or specific audiences. AI can now recognize emotions in text, video, and images. There are apps that can digitally undress people, clone their voices, and manipulate videos to make them say things they never did. It’s crucial to explore these complex and often unsettling topics with students in a safe and guided environment. For AI-driven media literacy lessons, we strongly recommend collaboration between teachers, school counselors, and psychologists to ensure a well-rounded and responsible approach.
